We’ve talked about fast fashion around here before. We’ve discussed the problems it’s causing in the world at large, and in our own closets every morning as we go to get dressed.
Over the past few decades a demand has been manufactured in the market for an endless supply of clothing. This progression of the fashion industry is not only unsustainable for the Earth but, it makes getting dressed and feeling confident each morning a struggle.
Bridget and I believe that the best way to avoid participating in this cycle is to opt for less but better in your wardrobe. Reject the idea that you need an overflowing closet of trendy clothing to look and feel your best when you leave the house. Because that’s simply not true.
We need less but better.
Declutter your closet and opt for having fewer clothes that you really love to wear. And when you go to shop for more, do so in a more considerate way. Shop for higher quality that will last. And shop eco-friendly when you can. Versus just buying stuff because it’s cheap or on sale.
So this summer, I did just that. I decluttered even more. And whittled down my summer dress selection to just three versatile pieces that I really loved to wear. The bonus is that I found each of them on my absolute favorite place to shop these days: thredUp.
It’s the largest online consignment shop around. And it chock-full of beautiful designer finds at unbelievable discounts. It’s awesome. Because not only do I save a bunch of money while shopping but, because I can also feel good about keeping what I buy out of a landfill.
Nothing is more eco-friendly than using what’s already been made.

Yumi Kim Maxi Dress
Just wore this peach to a wedding and can’t wait to pack it for wine tasting later this fall too. It’s even got pockets. And damnit, I love pockets on a dress.
Yumi Kim usually runs upwards of $400 – this puppy was snagged for just $27!
Forever 21 Off-The-Shoulder Mini
This dress is basically a t-shirt. And the off-the-shoulder trend I find adorable and flattering. Secondhand is the only way I’ll buy Forever 21 anymore, though. You just can’t unlearn some things, ya know? Oh and I wear shorts underneath it. Too short. Safety first. Nice and cool though, for those 100 degree days we had.
Ann Taylor Floral Midi
Midi dresses always make me feel like more a lady than I deserve. And this one is super comfy. I imagine it will work well this fall with a jacket and booties as well.
For more awesome, eco-friendly finds, check out thredUp here. They have a ton of pieces from brands like Gap, Express, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic and J.Crew.
And they were kind enough to share a couple of discount codes for your fall shopping! Enjoy!
