Weekend Reads

crop tops and kale weekend reads

Hell-ohhhhh Friday! How we doing guys?

I for one am feeling a mix of emotions, as my horoscope for the month is spot on (why yes I do have real estate on the mind, Susan Miller!) but I also just read this article about how the forecast for Lyme Disease this year is “forbidding” (this word gave me the willies!) and am now reconsidering said real estate related thoughts on remaining in the Northeast aka tick heaven.

Anyway, there happened to be a lot of good stuff floating around the Internet this week so let’s get to it.

From TED: the two kinds of stories we tell about ourselves. If you’ve taken our weight loss course, you know we touch a bit on how our stories affect our thoughts and behavior. These narratives can play a big part in our perceptions and how we make sense of various experiences. I like this article because it explains how rewriting those stories can help us find positive meaning and purpose in our own lives.

I lurved this one on Man Repeller. Because we support the self-image revolution that’s going down but (!) the “I love my body 100% of time” rhetoric doesn’t always roll off the tongue, does it? This one makes the case for body neutrality. Not to suggest body positivity isn’t important, but can we stop talking about this already? Because if we did, we might just be able to focus on more important matters and get to a place where our worth can be found outside of our bodies.

Heads up Health Coaches! Our friend, photographer and branding extraordinaire Blair just launched her new training program, Your Wellness Brand. If you’re looking to create a brand that stands out in a very crowded industry, we can’t recommend her enough! It’s only open until March 17, so if it’s something you’re thinking about hop on it.

This was a great answer to the question, posed on Quora, “How can I make every minute of the day count?” In short, Auren Hoffman replied “Reduce decisions dramatically.” We’re big fans of reducing decision fatigue around here, and it makes sense that this can improve our days. Our little brains have so many decisions to make, so when we can reduce the total amount we can generally make better ones.

Another Health Coach friend of ours, Elanna over at That Lush Life launched a Green Smoothie Course this week! It’s such a fun curriculum if you want to up your game in the smoothie making department, and we’re pretty jazzed to be included. In the recipe book you’ll find one from yours truly, among a bunch of other tasty ones. All these lady bosses are killin it these days, eh? I’m loving it.

Speaking of which, a friend shared this poem on International Women’s Day and I thought it was so beautiful!

She has been feeling it for awhile now – that sense of awakening. There is a gentle rage simmering inside her, and it is getting stronger by the day. She will hold it close to her – she will nurture it and let it grow. She won’t let anyone take it away from her. It is her rocket fuel and finally, she is going places. She can feel it down to her very core – this is her time. She will not only climb mountains – she will move them too.

Happy weekend friends, hope it’s a good one!
